JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — A blast of frigid air has officially arrived and is here to stay through the middle of the week. This will be the coldest stretch of weather that we have seen so far this winter season. Highs will remain steady in the single digits and teens through Wednesday, with sub-zero overnight lows, but the wind will make it feel even colder. A Cold Weather Advisory (this is the new name for a Wind Chill Advisory) is in place for the entire area through Wednesday.

Widespread snow showers, localized snow squalls, and strong wind gusts will impact the area late Wednesday into Thursday. This wintry system has prompted various winter weather alerts to be issued across the area. A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Elk, Cameron, and Jefferson counties. These areas could expect pockets of heavier snow, as well as blowing/drifting snow causing some slick travel overnight Wednesday into early Thursday.

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — An area of low pressure will track south of Pennsylvania on Friday, bringing our area some snow to end the work week. Light snow will begin very early Friday morning, after around 2-3 AM, with the steadiest snow continuing throughout the morning. Due to the timing of this, there will likely be some slick and snow-covered roadways for the Friday morning commute.
