Brian and Todd Meeker cut the ribbon welcoming their business, Infinity Rose Security, as the newest member of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce. Joining them are their employees, along with Caitlin Baseggio, director of the Chamber, and Chamber board members and ambassadors. The business, which just moved to a new location at 129 Third St. #12, provides security for businesses in Sterling and events, including July Jamz and the Art of the Barbecue.

As it works on planning a budget for next year, the RE-1 Valley School Board got some unexpected bad news about this year’s budget during a business meeting Monday. The district has underestimated the cost of salaries and benefits for 2024-25, resulting in an expected overage of about $1.5 million.

In 1900, the town of Peetz was called Mercer by the Burlington Northern Railroad, which built a section house and depot there. The name was changed to Peetz in honor of Peter Peetz, who homesteaded there in 1903, having 40 acres to the west of the railroad tracks where Peetz now lies, and 80 acres to the east of the railroad. The 40 acres of Mr. Peetz’s land west of the railroad tracks was sold to the Lincoln Land Company and plotted for a town.
