THE NRL is chasing a $20 million global TV deal for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, with four broadcasters interested in taking on the mantle. That’s according to The Daily Telegraph, which has reported that Channel 9, Channel 7, DAZN and Amazon Prime are all in the running to bid for the rights of next year’s tournament. With the tournament set to play out in October and November, it fills the gap left between the NRL Grand Final and the start of the cricket season.

FORMER Catalans Dragons outside back Matt Ikuvalu has found a new club following his release from the Super League side. Ikuvalu played his last game for the French side in their Magic Weekend defeat to Hull KR last August and was subsequently released at the end of the 2024 Super League season. Now the 31-year-old has linked up with the Wyong Roos in the Newcastle Rugby League competition, which will see him play alongside former Newcastle Knights and Sydney Roosters forward Zane Tetevano.

HULL FC have confirmed that safe standing will be installed at the MKM Stadium during the club’s mid-season break from the stadium this summer. The decision to implement safe standing follows extensive consultation with the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the Stadium’s Safety Advisory Group. Almost 2,700 seats will be converted to safe standing: 1,574 in the home areas and 1,105 in the away supporters section, as per Sports Ground Safety Authority guidance.

FORMER Warrington player Gary Sanderson, 58, has documented his recovery from a shock bowel cancer diagnosis. Sanderson, who made 236 appearances for Warrington between 1986 and 1995, went to hospital to have piles removed before being told by doctors that he had a tumour. After having the cancer removed, Sanderson underwent chemotherapy as well as trialing a new drug that Cancer Research UK had developed. Now Sanderson has advocated going to the doctors at the slightest change in bowel habits.
