Captain Connor McDavid returned from injury on Wednesday and led the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues with three points. The Oilers will be looking to build on that win when they host the last-place San Jose Sharks on Friday. 1. Despite their win over the Blues in regulation time earlier this week, the Oilers weren’t able to officially clinch a playoff berth because the Calgary Flames picked up a loser point against the Anaheim Ducks on the same night.

The Edmonton Oilers will be without Leon Draisaitl when they take on the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, head coach Kris Knoblauch said. The star centre joined the team’s list of injured players on Thursday when the Oilers beat the San Jose Sharks. Draisaitl left the game in the middle of the second period and will be out short-term with a lower-body injury. According to Sportsnet’s Mark Spector, the injury was suffered when Draisaitl was hit by San Jose forward Barclay Goodrow.
