It’s now almost a week since we saw the first episode of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light (BBC1, Sun), and it is difficult to see past the rapture. Amazing, outstanding, important — the critics write as if they themselves are about to be beheaded. Can it be that good? I loved it last time — so murky, clever. But it lost a million of its viewers after its first episode.

For about a year now I’ve felt a big change in TV dramas: a kind of thinning out. Shows used always to be huge, rich, ensemble set pieces packed with originality and plot. Now, if you’re lucky, you’ll get one A-listerdrowned in expensive-looking costumes, locations, accessories, sets, all stretched out across ten echoing episodes. Why do you need ten episodes of anything? It cannot last.

I wasn’t going to write about the election — Emily Maitlis, libtards, we’ve all heard enough. But there was one question that hasn’t been answered: why didn’t more women vote for Kamala Harris? She positioned herself as the most female-friendly presidential candidate ever. At the Democratic national convention in August, the speeches focused, relentlessly, on how madame president would “restore abortion rights nationwide”.

For a long time now I have looked at feminism and felt cold. Why doesn’t it talk to me? If you look across the issues, they are always freakish/niche: men in women’s bogs, torture porn, revenge sexts, crying through the menopause, groping, victimhood, “enoughness”, the greasy cul-de-sac of trad wives. All of them are negative. Where are the big, warrior arguments, in economics, education, work, children, marriage — the campaigns that will make millions of women’s lives better?
