1. Introduction 1.1. OverviewAdditive manufacturing (AM) is defined as “the process of joining materials to make parts from 3D model data, usually layer-upon-layer” [1]. The geometric freedom, customisation, and reduced material waste permitted by AM techniques enable parts to be manufactured which are considered impractical using traditional processing routes such as extrusion or injection moulding.
