We know how busy finals season can get. With assignments piling up, tests which are due, and essays to be submitted, scheduling time can feel overwhelming. And sometimes, it can be difficult to sit down and take a break, especially with back-to-back exams. However, a little help goes a long way.

This is an article using Niagara Falls as a metaphor for friendships. Niagara Falls – you’ve always been my favorite place. You were the place that I would go to during my childhood. I remember going back each year, being more fascinated by you. From the ocean waves to the roaring mists, you were like a magical kingdom to me. You were like Arendelle, and I was like Elsa. I remember standing there, hearing and watching you. And seeing a rainbow appear above you.

Do you have a place where you go often? A place where you feel comforted and almost at home? One that you keep coming back to? I do, and that place for me is Niagara Falls. Now that the semester is almost over and the weather is getting warmer, I plan to travel to the Falls again. I remember going to Niagara Falls solely for family vacations as a child. We once went to stay at the waterpark and once to explore the waterfall.

What’s your study schedule like when you have midterms? It’s probably hectic. Some days, I spend up to eight hours studying and reviewing my notes just because I feel the need to keep up with lectures and maintain my GPA. When I started my first year at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), I began to grind, reviewing my notes before my lecture and after to memorize what the professor taught.

While I was online the other day, I stumbled upon a quote attributed to Oscar Wilde: I pondered the words and looked. That’s when I realized the group of people around us tends to influence us. Thinking back on my friend groups, both in elementary school and university–I know that was the case for me. My friends would tell me what I have to do, what I should do, or what interests me. “Listen to this music, watch that movie, because you’ll like it,” they told me.

You can probably agree that before entering adulthood we thought life would be linear. We graduate school, get a job, and start making a living. However, as soon as we begin to journey through the difficulties in life, we realize that our initial thoughts couldn’t be further from the truth. Detours happen everywhere and that can be very difficult to acknowledge. By this point in my life, I thought I would have a full-time job. Instead, I’m still in school and waiting to graduate.

One of the most profound revelations I had happened when I tutored a student. She was studying philosophy and asked me a question about the philosopher Descartes. “Our professor told us to write about Descartes,” she said. “But I don’t know what Descartes means by unicorns and inanimate objects not being real.” I chuckled. I’m not familiar with philosophy courses at all. I’ve never taken philosophy at a post-secondary level, so whenever I hear theorists’ names, my head starts to spin.

Ever since I was a kid, I was always told to obtain the best grades in school. Every day, I would remember going to school feeling pressured, especially on the day of a test. I needed to achieve that A, or that A+, simply because I needed to impress my parents. I never understood why I would always aim high, though.

Apple laptops – I’m sure we have all seen them and maybe you’re considering purchasing a MacBook. I know I have definitely seen them around! It seems that wherever I go, a couple of students would often work on their Apple laptops – or MacBooks. Initially, I was against the idea of buying a MacBook. Just like anybody else, I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon. And because so many students were purchasing one, I decided that perhaps, a cheaper option would work better for me.
