1 Introduction The ageing of the global population is a phenomenon in constant progression, with a rate of ageing that is faster than in the past [1-3]. Between 2015 and 2050, the percentage of the global population aged over 60 years is expected to nearly double, rising from 12% to 22% [1]. Furthermore, it is estimated that by 2050, 80% of older adults will reside in low- and middle-income countries [1].
