In April 2024, T-Mobile, as well as AT&T and Verizon, were fined for sharing customer location data with aggregators without their consent. The fine was first proposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2020 when it found out that aggregators were sending location information to third parties. T-Mobile is now challenging the decision. T-Mobile and the FCC fought it out in court on Monday over a $92 million fine imposed on it in April last year.

AT&T, which is a relatively new entrant, now provides median download speeds of 145.30 Mbps, up 12 percent from 126.41 Mbps a year ago. Median upload speeds somehow dropped 18 percent from 16.62 Mbps in Q4 2023 to 13.57 Mbps in Q4 2024. Latency on the network decreased slightly from 74 ms in Q4 2023 to 73 ms in Q4 2024. T-Mobile hopes to have 12 million FWA customers by 2028, while Verizon is looking to add up to 9 million subscribers.

Google appears to have made significant progress on the feature since then, and though it's not live yet, a new report manages to show us how it may work. In late 2024, T-Mobile teamed up with NVIDIA, Ericsson, and Nokia to develop next-generation wireless technologies. The company has now deepened its partnership with NVIDIA by announcing a collaboration on the development of 6G using AI as the core technology. For the new program, T-Mobile and NVIDIA have also roped in MITRE, Cisco, ODC, and Booz Allen Hamilton. The alliance wants to create an AI-powered network architecture for 6G using NVIDIA's AI Aerial platform.

Update from March 19, 2025:T-Mobile has informed us that the line will remain free, as long as the customer maintains eligibility under the offer. An AI-generated system had hinted that customers would be charged after two years. T-Mobile tells us that was an error, and it's working on a fix. The line stays free on their current plan — or our Go5G plans should the customer chose to move plans — as long as the customer maintains eligibility under the offer.
