The nature of love is the lofty topic at the heart of the new romcom Materialists, the second feature from Celine Song. The acclaimed writer-director and playwright first shot onto the film scene with her 2023 directorial debut Past Lives, a semi-autobiographical work about a woman who reunites with her childhood sweetheart while in the midst of a new relationship. Much like her earlier work, Materialists focuses on a woman torn between two men.
