In 2023, Daniel Penny killed Jordan Neely — a mentally ill, homeless Black man — on a New York City subway. He was acquitted by a jury and eventually received a personal invite from the Vice President-elect of the United States to watch the Army-Navy football game in a VIP box with the three most powerful men in the nation.

This historic and shameful first is chiefly the fault of President Joe Biden’s administration and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice. Biden cared more about the appearance of having an independent DOJ untainted by politics than he did about holding an unrepentant criminal ex-president accountable.

Bush in 2004.
