Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Atlas Peak American Viticultural Area tasting at Sequoia Grove Winery in Napa. Among the many wines sampled, a few stood out. One was the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon from Seven Apart. This particular cabernet sauvignon had a striking ruby color that immediately caught the eye. On the nose, it offered a delightful bouquet of aromas — bell pepper, mint and eucalyptus — which hinted at the freshness and complexity of the wine.

What with the recent fires and storms, many of us will be hiring a contractor in the near future. Here are some pointers so that this process doesn’t make matters worse. I base my advice on both my own experience, as well as some of the unfortunate experiences my clients have had before retaining me. 1. Only hire licensed contractors. Regardless of whether someone says that he or she is licensed, always check the license out online at the California Contractors State License Board: www.cslb.ca.gov.

A few months ago, several Napa wineries made their way to Southern California to offer some of their wines for sampling by buyers for retail stores and restaurants, as well as a few lucky members of the press. Held at tony Fashion Island in Newport Beach, about 30 wineries poured some tasty examples of why the buyers should be purchasing their vino. Let me tell you about some of the highlights. Perchance is one of many ventures featuring Mike Smith as the winemaker.

Now, I’ve written a few columns about my visit to Peju in June, including my delightful time with its matriarch, HB Peju. But I have been remiss in not telling you about the amazing food and wine pairing we enjoyed there. Peju’s in-house Chef Nicolas “Nic” Montañez guided us on how to achieve the maximum that both the tasty food samples and the fine wines offered. We started with the pinot noir from Carneros.

After a vigorous day of sampling wine from barrels from about 40 wineries, Terry and I got back to where we were staying, bushed. What a fun, fabulous (but exhausting) way to spend a day. But then we remembered that we had an exclusive invite to dine under the stars at the chic winery, St. Supéry. But of course St. Supéry is chic.

Went to @BestBuy to return a Father's Day gift that's not working. They refused to accept return, give store credit, or even provide trade in credit b/c I didn't have a receipt. We spent $8K with them for home theater, but that meant nothing.

At the last @WorldofPinot, I had the chance to talk with Don Schroeder, winemaker @_Seasmoke. Here's the fruit of our discussion: https://t.co/Q7KT9Y1dxD https://t.co/YUihKkjFK0
