The biggest Sunday of the year is right around the corner: Super Sunday. That day, January 26 (two weeks before that other famous winter Sunday), the Jewish community of the Lehigh Valley will Unite for Impact at the JCC for a morning and afternoon of educational and fundraising programs and activities.
The event, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, begins at 9:30 a.m. at the JCC with a Maimonides Society Brunch and Learn.

Women’s Philanthropy is having a Chanukah party with a focus on collecting toys and other items for kids who otherwise might not receive gifts.
Robin Raskin of FamilyMatters, a Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options (JAFCO) support network, will speak at the Shine Your Light event on Tuesday, December 17, at Jay’s Local in Allentown. Raskin will talk about FamilyMatters’ work providing case management and support services to families going through crises.

How many synagogues are there in the Lehigh Valley? That was one of the trivia questions asked aboard the bus to Philadelphia on October 22 for the Women’s Philanthropy Lion of Judah and Pomegranate visit to the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History.
Twenty-five women boarded the bus for the annual Lion Pom Fall Event. During the ride, they enjoyed wine and snacks.

“We remember where we were, what we were doing, and a searing sense of loss,” Jeri Zimmerman, executive director of the Jewish Federation, told the hundreds of people gathered in the JCC to commemorate the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on the night of their first anniversary.
U.S. Representative Susan Wild of Pennsylvania’s 7th District said she was encouraged to see the already-large audience continue to grow before the event started.

“To understand Israel, you have to understand the Middle East,” Eric Lightman, executive director of the JCC, told the gathering in the JCC Kline Auditorium on October 30. The audience of mostly young adults from the community had come to hear Middle East expert Avi Melamed’s presentation “What No One Tells You about Israel and the Middle East,” sponsored by the JCC and the Jewish Federation.

Jonathan Conricus, retired Israel Defense Forces lieutenant colonel, offered at least a bit of optimism to the nearly 150 Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley donors gathered at Temple Beth El September 10 to hear his insider’s take of the war in Israel.
Though the situation remains volatile and peace is not imminent, Israel will prevail, he said.

The first event in the Lehigh Valley for the three artists who had just arrived from the Valley’s Partnership2Gether community of Yoav, Israel, on September 9 was a hands-on art therapy session with the Jewish Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy.
Romina Oppel, an art therapist who led the program fittingly titled “Art and Life,” used art to promote healing from the difficult year that has passed since the October 7 Hamas attacks.
