    CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A $1.25 million grant is being used to help fund the restoration of two historic buildings. The Historic Charleston Foundation received the grant from the Mellon Foundation, which will support rehabilitating the historic Pine Tree Hotel and Skeeta Beach Lounge on Mosquito Beach. Mosquito Beach is located off Folly Road on James Island and was once a gathering space for African Americans and the Gullah Geechee community during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation.

    MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) - A Lowcountry doctor says he is seeing a significant rise in the number of patients suffering from blood clots. Blood clots can form in the arms or legs, as well as the heart, brain, lungs, and other organs or arteries. Dr. Edward Morrison, a vascular surgeon with Novant Health’s East Cooper Hospital System, says he is now seeing at least one major pulmonary embolism case each week. This is when a blood clot blocks an artery in the lungs.
