    Offshore drilling contractor Seadrill is laying off 162 offshore workers in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico as its drillship West Neptune will be out of work soon. Seadrill sent a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice to the Texas Workforce Commission, informing it about planned layoffs of 162 workers in Houston. Under the U.S. labour laws, the WARN notice gives 60 calendar days layoff advance notice.

    A ship handover and naming ceremony has been held for the 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessel built by China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling for China Merchants Shipping. As disclosed, the vessel is the first of the four ‘Mingrong’ series 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessels signed in 2023 and is a new generation of energy-saving and environmentally friendly ships.

    Norwegian carbon tech company Horisont Energi said Barents Blue, Europe’s first large-scale blue ammonia production facility, has accomplished key milestones. The Barents Blue project’s concept is to use natural gas from the Barents Sea to produce ammonia. It promises to provide Europe’s first large-scale clean ammonia production, located in Finnmark in Northern Norway. The project is a cooperation between Horisont Energi, Equinor, and Vår Energi.

    The UK’s North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has issued three carbon storage permits to Italy’s oil & gas giant Eni for the HyNet carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Liverpool Bay, enabling the development of a 109 million tonne CO2 storage system over 25 years. According to NSTA, this marks the second such approval issued by the regulator in under five months, following the December 2024 permit for the Endurance site in the Southern North Sea.
