    Pocatello/Chubbuck school trustees approved further restrictions of student cellphone use at a regular board meeting Wednesday. The decision came after months of soliciting public feedback and considering options. The newly approved Pocatello/Chubbuck policy includes the following changes:Cellphones and other personal electronic devices are not allowed during the school day. They must be turned off, out of sight and stored in a locker, backpack, bag or vehicle.

    State education leaders are considering making changes to K-12 testing, which could impact third graders and high school students. State Superintendent Debbie Critchfield proposed dropping the state English Language Arts test for third graders, who already have to take the state literacy exam, at the State Board of Education’s regular meeting Tuesday.

    The federal government has canceled a $6.3 million grant for the Idaho Commission for Libraries, state library leaders announced at a board meeting Thursday. The grant would have gone toward a statewide digital access initiative years in the making. The first round of 29 grant recipients had been selected to receive more than $2.3 million combined. The ICfL was awaiting federal approval to issue the funds when the grant was canceled on May 9.
