    U.S. Senator Michael Bennet partnered with U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen to host a town hall in Salida on Wednesday, April 16. After the town hall, one attendee pulled Ark Valley Voice (AVV) to the side and requested AVV ask the senator a question. In light of Bennet’s recent announcement that he will be running for governor in 2026, she wanted to know why he was choosing to leave the Senate. Bennet has represented Colorado in the U.S. Senate since 2009.

    It might only be April, but it’s already FIBArk time again. Running event registration is open for FIBArk (First in Boating the Arkansas) 2025. The annual whitewater festival is scheduled for Thursday, June 12 through Sunday, June 15 in Salida. While FIBArk is naturally known best for its river events, various other races have become an annual tradition. The Tenderfoot Hill Climb in particular has become the traditional kickoff to the festival weekend.

    Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser announced in early January that he will run for governor in 2026. Weiser was the first big name in the Colorado Democratic party to announce his bid for Governor Jared Polis’ term-limited seat. “In terms of preparation, I’ve worked on every single issue that Colorado faces. I’ve been there with Governor Polis as we’ve dealt with issues on public health, on protecting our land, air, and water and more,” commented Weiser in January.
