In the last year, the FDA has approved two STD tests for at-home use that allow women to get fast diagnoses for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea—three STDs with skyrocketing rates among midlife women. The FDA in March authorized the Visby Medical Women’s Sexual Health Test for over-the-counter purchase and at-home use to diagnose chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis; in August, the agency also authorized the First to Know Syphilis Test by NOWDiagnostics.

Last year, an American Cancer Society (ACS) statistical report found that cancer rates for people under 50 were increasing—with an uptick in colorectal cancer diagnoses, in particular, causing concern. Colorectal cancer, 30 years ago, was the fourth leading cause of cancer death for women under 50; now, it’s the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the same age bracket.
