This risk is even more pronounced among women with intersecting identities; Black women, in particular, are more likely to die of heart disease than white women.

In 1999, she filed a pay discrimination lawsuit against Goodyear, which seven years later ended up before the Supreme Court. In the last year, the FDA has approved two STD tests for at-home use that allow women to get fast diagnoses for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea—three STDs with skyrocketing rates among midlife women. The FDA in March authorized the Visby Medical Women’s Sexual Health Test for over-the-counter purchase and at-home use to diagnose chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis; in August, the agency also authorized the First to Know Syphilis Test by NOWDiagnostics.
