These three groundbreaking events were part of the District 62 bond that voters approved in April 2022. School board members, community members, school leaders, district leaders, architects and contractors all gathered at Brame Middle, Cherokee Elementary, and J.B. Nachman to celebrate the beginning of construction.

Preston Branton began as a student who didn’t miss any days of school, but it quickly became a goal he wanted to accomplish. Thursday, May 1, at the senior awards at Holy Savior Menard, he was awarded two different awards. One for perfect attendance throughout high school and the second for not missing a single day for 14 years. “It feels good,” Branton said.

COLFAX, La. (KALB)—On Friday, May 2, the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office will host its annual torch run and pancake fundraiser for the Special Olympics. It will be from 6 a.m. until 8 a.m. at the GPSO office in Colfax. Pancake plates will be $5.00. Sheriff Steven McCain will fire up his trusty griddle to fill the runners’ stomachs, and anyone who wants to cheer them on. All of the money sold from the pancake breakfast will go to benefit the Cenla athletes for the Louisiana Special Olympics.

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - John Ward Ace Hardware on Metro Drive in Alexandria is celebrating 100 years of business. John Ward opened the business in 1925. His family has owned and operated the Ace Hardware location for four generations. This business lasted through the Great Depression and served as a distribution point for ammo rations during World War II. “I wanted to take this business over because I saw the positive impact that we can make in this community,” said Taylor Ward, current owner.
