Candace Bryan isn’t a stranger to the Fringe and you may well have witnessed her first foray into the fray back in 2023. But this year she presents her first one hour show and we are very much here for it, not least because of the real life experiences it draws on. ‘MILF’ sees Bryan exploring events that befell her in 2024, while also telling the story of growing up without her mother present, and what happened when she came back into her life.

LA-based actor, comedian and writer Woody Fu is a frequent presence on US TV screens – and has some experience of performing at the Fringe before in some of our favourite shows – so it’s great to see him headed to Edinburgh with his own, very promising solo show. Opening at Stone Nest this week is a very intriguing participatory installation, inspired by tactical tabletop war games, and set on the morning of 6 January 2021 – the day that the US Capitol in Washington was attacked by supporters of Donald Trump. Called ‘Fight For America!’, it’s an event that explores political division and the dynamics of political conflict. Audiences will play the game, but if you’d rather take a backseat, observer tickets are available too.

The latest production from the brilliant Dash Arts has just begun its run at the Arcola Theatre and it’s one we definitely think you should have on your to-see list for June. ‘The Reckoning’ is a new play about war and survival, created using verified witness testimonies from Ukraine, which blends storytelling with movement, music and cooking. The play has been co-written by Anastasiia Kosodii and DashArts AD Josephine Burton, who also directs.
