If you read our words with a degree of regularity, you may well have an idea of who some of our very favourite performers are, especially those ones that we first made contact with up at the Edinburgh Fringe. Which means you may well already know and understand the high esteem in which we hold James Rowland. James specialises in superlatively excellent storytelling solo shows, ones that never fail to touch and entertain us.

Beginning a run at Soho Theatre this week is SH Productions’ ‘All The Happy Things’, a play by Naomi Denny that’s about bereavement, grief and sisterhood. These are serious themes, but the play itself is a dark comedy, and its approach to a difficult topic is definitely intriguing. I wanted to find out more about the show and its talented playwright, who is also a talented performer, and takes on one of the roles in this three-hander. I spoke to Naomi ahead of opening night.

I love a show that’s a bit harder to define, one that doesn’t quite fall into any of the kind of categories you’d find in something like, oh, I dunno… the Edinburgh Fringe programme. Coming to the Bread & Roses Theatre at the start of April is ‘Here Comes Your Ghost Again’, a play with a rather interesting title that immediately piqued my interest when I heard about it. It’s all about the dynamics of a long term relationship, and how hard it can be to maintain honest and open lines of communication. It’s the work of former journalist Callum Murray, whose company We To Play is producing the show. I spoke to him to find out more.

Opening at Finborough Theatre this week is ‘Men’s Business’, a translation by Simon Stephens of Franz Xaver Kroetz’s 1970s work ‘Männersache’. It’s being brought to London by highly acclaimed Irish theatre company Glass Mask Theatre, and it sounds amazing. Rex Ryan, Glass Mask’s Creative Director, appears in the show alongside Lauren Farrell, and the play is directed by Ross Gaynor. I arranged a quick chat with Rex to find out more. CM: Can you start by telling us about the content of the play?
