We need to elect Jane Wisialowski as State Representative from the 23rd District. Old Saybrook is facing a number of critically important issues over the next few years. Issues such as coastal resilience due to climate change, managing a school system in the face of declining enrollment, the collapse of our current system for managing solid waste and the steep escalation of prices associated with that, will require an active participant in the discussions at the State Capitol.

In Old Saybrook the right to continue having timely and responsible voting is on the ballot. Why, you ask? Both political parties will be electing a new Registrar of Voters. These individuals will jointly hold the process of voting to the high professional standards we expect and deserve. Registrars are sworn elected officials who make sure our elections are run fairly according to Connecticut election laws. What do they do? Voter registration lists and equipment must be maintained.

To the Editor:I’m writing to ask Lyme voters for their vote in the upcoming election for the Region 18 Board of Education. I’m a father of two young children attending Region 18 schools. Professionally, I work as the director of a national arts advocacy  non-profit and I am an entrepreneur, artist, and a long time community organizer. As a volunteer, I’ve worked in my kids’ classrooms since their first days of pre-K, run programs and fundraisers for the PTA, and served as its president.

Hopefully, Old Saybrook voters read the article in the Sept. 21 edition of Harbor News about Westbrook receiving a cost estimate of $12 to $13 million to construct a wastewater system in downtown Westbrook ("Town Receives Cost Estimate for Downtown Septic System"). Town leaders there have $1 million in ARPA funding allocated for the project.
