Along a small slice of NE 62 Street in Little River stand a few warehouse spaces that have not yet been replaced by bougie storefronts. Next to an auto repair shop is a nondescript stainless steel door. To the right of it is a sign, spray-painted on a slab of rock, reading, "Yo Space Yo Miami."Inside, there's a large manifesto framed on the wall. Although it's a remnant of an old Yo Miami art show, its words still resonate and hold true for the arts organization and its mission.

The year was 1925 and Miami looked very different — fewer buildings, a lot more marshy wetland. Prohibition was in full effect and there was a land boom that could put today’s real estate market to shame. It was also the same year the City of Coral Gables was incorporated.

When he developed Coral Gables, Merrick was inspired by the turn-of-the-century City Beautiful movement (hence the nickname). He was big on Mediterranean architecture, which explains many of the area’s decorative buildings and facades. The neighborhood also has many eye-catching landmarks, including the Biltmore Hotel and Venetian Pool. The Gables is a beautiful city offering quiet living and restorative leisure.
