Federal funding cuts are impacting the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis (BGCI), costing the organization thousands of dollars to support proper staffing, but the organization says its summer camp is still on. The Indianapolis branch of the national Boys & Girls Club of America told IndyStar that it has seen an approximate loss of $315,000 to $335,000 in funding due to cuts at the federal level to the AmeriCorps agency and 21st Century Community Learning Center grants.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Aleesia Johnson have announced the nine members who will help design major changes to how the district will work with charter schools in the future. The announcement was dropped at 4 p.m. on the Friday before the city prepares for the Indianapolis 500 and the Memorial Day holiday. This group, known as the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA), was created out of legislation passed this year under House Bill 1515.

Reshanda Allen pleaded guilty to two felony counts of neglect of a dependent that placed them in danger on May 19, 2025. One felony neglect of a dependent resulting in injury charge was dismissed as part of the deal. Charges against Allen were brought last May after a fight broke out at Guion Creek Elementary that involved a 10-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy on Feb. 27, 2024.
