Matt Murphy, founder of the Sherkin Island Marine Station — one of Ireland's longest-running coastal research stations — has died. Mr Murphy, 89, is predeceased by his wife Eileen who had co-founded the lab and research station on West Cork's Sherkin Island, with him. He is survived by his children Matty, Michael, Susan, Mark, Robbie, Peter and Audrey, and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Prepare to be bowled over by a new mosaic about to be installed in Waterford. Thousands of bowls, cups, plates and mugs have been donated to the permanent art project being designed to raise environmental awareness. The creator of this massive work of art is environmental artist Sean Corcoran who may be known to many already for his giant sand art drawings. He says there was an overwhelming response to a call-out for the crockery for this unique project.
