An MP has said she is frustrated by the time it is taking to achieve higher safety standards over the use of button batteries despite a toddler's death. Harper-Lee Fanthorpe died in 2021 after swallowing batteries from a remote control handset. Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Jo Gideon said simple changes to ensure the batteries were screwed into devices would make a "huge difference". She has been working with the family who also want stricter guidelines.
