Romsey and Southampton North MP, Caroline Nokes (Image: LDRS) Last weekend was a triumph in mind over matter as I hiked the 11 miles from Stockbridge to Romsey as part of the annual Rotary "Walk the Test Way". I try to do it most years, I think I skipped the year I had a broken shoulder, and the route sometimes varies a little, but it is now a familiar journey for me at the end of September. I am still feeling the after effects and some pretty sore legs and feet.

Caroline Nokes (Image: Archive) Parliament has returned with the Remaining Stages of two new pieces of legislation, the Passenger Railway Services Bill and the Budget Responsibility Bill. These were Committees of the Whole House, which meant they were chaired from the table at which the Clerks sit, rather than the Speakers Chair.

Caroline Nokes (Image: Contributed) This week saw a lovely leaving party for Judith Giles, the chief officer of Romsey Town Council, who has been with the council for 20 years. Judith has been at many of the wonderful events we have seen in Romsey over the years, not least the unveiling of the beautiful War Horse statue in the Memorial Park, and made sure that many a civic event runs smoothly. I have no doubt we will all miss her and her administrative efficiency.

Romsey and Southampton North MP, Caroline Nokes (Image: LDRS) Having seen the sculpture of HM The Queen, that will ultimately be the statue to be installed in Romsey, last weekend I am completely in awe of anyone with artistic talent. Amy Goodman created the beautiful War Horse statue that is in the Memorial Park, and this new work by her is absolutely incredible.

During August I made time to go and visit the National Trust at Mottisfont Abbey, and had a long conversation about what the new Government's proposals on planning might mean for sustainability.

Caroline Nokes (Image: Contributed) The final week before recess has seen new government legislation introduced, with the Second Reading of the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill and the Second Reading of the Budget Responsibility Bill. This will enable them to come back in September for their remaining stages in Committee of the Whole House.
