OSKALOOSA (KSNT) – The 2025 Class 2-1A softball state championship trophy resides in Oskaloosa, Kansas for the first time in school history. The Bears defeated Inman 8-1 in Friday’s championship game to claim the title, a moment that still hasn’t quite settled in for the players. “The excitement is still just like calming down,” sophomore outfielder Keirstyn Mitchell said. “Even days later it just didn’t register that we were the actual state champions,” junior shortstop Lydia Turner said.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The 2025 Washburn Rural girls soccer team has cemented itself in both school and KSHSAA history. The Junior Blues took home the program’s first-ever 6A state title on Saturday, beating Mill Valley 1-0 in the championship. The double-overtime contest ended in a shootout, with the Blues winning the shootout 4-1. After finishing in third place in 2024 and 2023 and as runners up in 2022, finally getting their hands on the state trophy was a moment to remember for Rural’s 11 seniors.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – It’s hard to engage in the Kansas high school basketball conversation without mentioning Highland Park’s Mike Williams. After a seven-year run as the Runnin’ Scots’ head coach, Williams confirmed to 27 News his plan to step away from coaching for now. Highland Park fell one possession shy of a state title back in March, losing 58-55 to Wichita’s Kapaun Mt. Carmel in overtime of the 5A championship game. The Scots’ 2025 state tournament appearance marked their fourth in a row.
