A Sioux Falls man was booked May 8 into the Minnehaha County Jail, after a nearly two-hour standoff with the Sioux Falls Police Department, police spokesperson Sam Clemens said in the daily police briefing with media May 9. Ronald Allen Detress Jr., 58, was apprehended at about 11:30 a.m. May 8, Clemens said. The man faces one count of window peeking, two counts of simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct, according to a Minnehaha County court document.

A Rapid City man has died at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, according to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Corrections (DOC). Slade Dean Walter, 65, died at a Sioux Falls hospital May 7, according to the press release. Walter was handed a life sentence in 2003 after being convicted of criminal pedophilia, according to a Pennington County court document. He was also serving a 15-year sentence for charges of sexual contact with a child younger than 16.

A Sioux Falls man is facing first-degree rape charges involving a child under the age of 13, according to a Minnehaha County court document. Bartolome Juan Francisco, 47, was booked into the Minnehaha County Jail on May 7 on four counts of first-degree rape of a child under the age of 13 and four counts of second-degree rape by use of force, coercion or threats, according to court documents.

A Sioux Falls man previously accused of sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16 pleaded guilty to two counts of contributing to abuse, neglect or delinquency in Minnehaha County court May 5, according to court documents. Lino Martinez, 56, was arrested in October on reports of alleged sexual contact with three children under the age of 16, according to previous reporting. The sexual contact charges were dismissed by prosecutors, according to court documents.
