A new rule proposed on April 18 could change how Thrift Savings Plan-based loans are repaid under reamortization terms. The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, which governs the federal government’s 401(k)-style retirement plan, detailed its plan to amend a loan reamorization rule in the Federal Register. The board proposed a combination of accrued interest with the outstanding principal when reamortizing a loan made out of the TSP.

Some House members are seeking to push back against widespread layoffs, firings and deferred resignations across the federal government with new legislation. A bill put forth by Rep. Johnny Olszewski, D-Md., on April 10 as the Protect Promoted Workers Act (H.R. 2880). It proposes to add more protections for federal employees who have entered a probationary period due to promotion to a competitive service, excepted service or Senior Executive Service position.

In a time of uncertain federal spending, House members are trying again to bolster personnel resources at two different agencies plagued by staffing shortages with new benefits. Reps. Morgan McGarvey, D-Ky., and Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., reintroduced the Board of Veterans’ Appeals Attorney Retention and Backlog Reduction Act (H.R. 2303) on Monday to help whittle down a 200,000-case backlog of veterans’ claims appeals by offering the attorneys processing them new recruitment and retention incentives.
