Former LSU football player found dead at 24

A Thibodaux native and former LSU football receiver was found dead late last night. Kyren Lacy was found in Houston at his mother’s home. Lacy was a Thibodaux High School standout who played college football for both UL-Lafayette and LSU. This past season, he was a standout for the Tigers and was one of the top receivers in the SEC.

Spring is here and temperatures are rising with forecasts calling for highs in the mid-to-upper 80s by the end of the week. That means it’s almost another beach season on Grand Isle. With the weather getting warmer and more people heading down to the island, the Grand Isle Police Department issued a warning to residents and tourists this week saying that golf carts and side-by-sides are not to be driven on La. Highway 1.
Former local basketball standout sentenced in Kentucky case

A former South Lafourche High School basketball standout is going to prison for sex crimes involving a teenager. Clarence Moore was sentenced to 7 years in prison in a Kentucky courtroom last week after he had previously pleaded guilty to a myriad of charges, stemming from an arrest in 2023. Moore pleaded guilty in December 2024 to one count of unlawful transaction with a minor, four counts of sodomy, four counts of sexual abuse and two counts of rape.
Colonels swept by Northwestern State, weakening team’s Southland positioning

Nicholls’ woes away from Didier Field continued this weekend, falling flat in a 3-game sweep at the hands of a Southland Conference rival. Northwestern State swept Nicholls this weekend in Natchitoches, dropping the Colonels to 5-10 in Southland play and further sinking the team in the Southland Conference standings. Of more concern is the grim reality which is that the Colonels struggle mightily away from home.
Local talent on display at local All-Star Game

If Saturday is any indication, it’s probably pretty safe to say that the future of basketball in our area is in pretty good hands. The Luke Ford Jr. Bayou/River All-Star Basketball Games were held this weekend at Thibodaux High School. This year’s games were hosted by the Thibodaux Lion’s Club and were presented by Thibodaux Regional’s Sports Medicine Center. Historically, the local All-Star Game featured both a girls’ and boys’ high school game for seniors in our area.

If there is anything that I can say about myself, it’s this: I was blessed with an ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY amazing group of public school teachers. Let me say that again, and let me put that in all caps again just in case anyone missed it the first time. My teachers from kindergarten on down to the last year of high school were some of THE BEST people a human being could ever meet, and I am ABSOLUTELY BLESSED to have had them in my life. They are men and women that I still see today.
2 dead in overnight plane crash; authorities investigating to try and find cause of crash

Lafourche Parish Government is partnering with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and State and Federal Agencies to investigate an aircraft crash that occurred late Wednesday night. Authorities say that an aircraft crashed in the marsh between Raceland and Houma in an area near La. Highway 182. Two were aboard the aircraft. They have both been pronounced dead. The victims have been identified as Lyle Pannepinto and Lauren Menkemeller.
REV CFO named Chair of LTA’s Board of Directors

Louisiana voters shoot down amendments decisively on Election Day

Louisiana voters struck back against 4 amendments, dealing a bit of a blow to the lawmakers who proposed the measures. All 4 amendments failed rather decisively on Election Day, a bit of a surprise to some because the amendments had the backing of most Republicans in the very Republican-Red Louisiana. Governor Jeff Landry even got involved and publicly endorsed Amendment 2, repeatedly offering his support for the bill in recent weeks.
Nicholls falls short at Southland Tournament as rumors swirl about Saddler’s future

For another year, it was close but no cigar for the Nicholls State University men’s basketball team in Lake Charles at the Southland Conference Tournament. The Colonels lost a heartbreaker to Lamar in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament, ending the team’s season with a 20-13 record. One day after the season ended, McNeese repeated as Southland Conference Champions, beating Lamar in the tournament finals. Coach Tevon Saddler said he was proud of his team’s fight in Lake Charles.
