I have had the pleasure of knowing William Eberhard from the context of field-based educational programmes created by the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS), in which students work with experts in the field to address ecological questions. These graduate courses are designed to engage students in the formulation of feasible research questions and to train them to plan an experimental design, to collect data and to perform statistical analyses appropriate to answer the proposed queries.
