Exploring all of the monuments in our nation’s capital is just one of the experiences that local eighth graders Ellie Slatte and Dawson Wood hold dear after attending the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. in the first week of August. With support from their families, the two Sleeping Giant Middle School students attended the event, in part, thanks to a nomination from Brenda Speake, their history teacher, the girls said.
