Harmony Korine’s latest feature film, Aggro Dr1ft (2023), was created with his new design collective, EDGLRD. It stars actor Jordi Mollà as BO, an assassin who has to undertake one last dangerous mission before retiringAfter years of representation at Gagosian, Korine held his first solo exhibition with Hauser & Wirth in Los Angeles in September 2023. His show “AGGRESSIVE DR1FTER” includes Technicolored paintings based on stills from his new feature film, which was shot in infrared.

CG: In the music video for “Bullfrog,” you’re operating a jackhammer naked in the desert. Was that your idea? D: Yes! I had that concept in my head for so long. I saw a picture of a construction site and thought, “Oh my god, imagine if a woman were to do this.” I knew I wanted to do it, but also to start with a tight shot so you have no idea why my boobs are shaking like that. I just love being naked––I don’t give a shit! I find nudity very artistic.

HS: It’s funny you ask because I spent all day yesterday trying to remember the name of my freshman year English professor––and it only just now popped into my head. It was sort of inspired by her. Born in 1947, Sorayama came of age in post-WWII Japan, and traces his metal fetish back to childhood years spent admiring machinery in his industrial hometown. By high school, the self-taught illustrator shifted his focus toward a new “mania:” pin-ups. Despite his natural gift for drawing, Sorayama had plenty of other career ambitions—such as becoming a pilot, a sword smith or a temple carpenter—before enrolling in university to study Greek and English literature.
