Whoever decided to put election season right next to Thanksgiving is either America’s biggest prankster or a masochist that just wants to watch the world burn. It’s that time of year again. Our days are getting shorter, busier and more stressful. Although some may see this as a time to hibernate, it’s actually the perfect time to ask for help. The Counseling Center, located on the second floor of the Student Success Center, is a free resource that’s always there for you when you need help. With the extra stress that comes with midterms, finals and seasonal depression, now is the perfect time to get connected with the Counseling Center.

Finals and midterms are upon us, and I know I am personally getting sick of my typical study spots. I’ve noticed that it’s been harder to focus and stay motivated in my usual spots. One thing that has really helped revitalize me in my study sessions is visiting many of the coffee shops we have in downtown Oshkosh. There’s one coffee shop in particular that has helped me to focus, so I hope this guide can help everyone find their own little study sanctuary.

With Halloween upon us, many are more excited than they are scared for the Hallo-weekend festivities. However, Oshkosh isn’t all treats — it has some tricks, too. The UW Oshkosh campus has had many haunted hearsays throughout the years, with students reporting weird and potentially paranormal activity in dorms such as The Scotts, Horizon Village and Donner Hall. It’s no secret that UW Oshkosh was once known for its crazy house parties. Afterall, we didn’t get the name “Sloshkosh” for no reason. Recently, however, we haven’t been living up to our name, and I’ve been missing the wild parties we were once known for. I’m not sure if it’s the vibes, the freshman-year nostalgia, the adrenaline rush of running from a raided house or just the status of being a renowned party town, but I know I’m not alone when I say I want house parties back.

As by now we are all too aware, the Universities of Wisconsin are going through some major financial problems, and UW Oshkosh seems to be doing worst of all. We started last year with a projected $18 million deficit, and per the Institutional Realignment Plan (IRP), laid off 140 staff and faculty members in an effort to close the gap.

Living in the digital age has given our generation many advantages. The ability to instantly reach those close to us, post content for both them and acquaintances alike, the ability to stream videos, shows and movies instantly and the ability to get information in seconds gives users immense power. This last point in particular has changed the education system a fair amount. Some argue it’s for the better, while some argue it’s for the worst.
