Swedish steelmaker SSAB has chosen plant supplier SMS group for the construction of a new 190-ton EAF, which is set to be one of the largest installations in the world with an upper shell diameter of 9.3 metres. The new EAF, located in Oxelösund, has its first heat scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026 and will lower total CO2 emissions in Sweden by 3%, say the companies.

Nordic industry start-up Blastr Green Steel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with INTERFER Edelstahl Group, a European steel trading company, for the annual supply of 150kt of ‘ultra-low CO₂’ steel products. This is the second offtake agreement announced in the last two months, covering a combined 10% of the planned capacity at Blastr’s green steel plant under development at Inkoo, Finland.

Industrial scale-up Stegra and Axpo Nordic, a subsidiary of energy company Axpo, have signed a power purchase agreement for the supply of electricity to Stegra’s integrated green hydrogen, green iron and green steel production plant located in Boden, northern Sweden. Under the agreement, Axpo Nordic will supply 2.25 TWh of electricity over three years, starting in 2027, to Stegra’s facility in Boden, which is currently under construction.

Kanthal, a supplier of products and services in industrial heating, and a division within Alleima Group, has won the E-prize from energy group EON, and Swedish newspapers Aktuell Hållbarhet and Dagens Industri, in the category of energy optimization. The prize is Sweden's largest energy prize in business and aims to promote the development of Swedish companies that contribute to the energy and climate transition.
