Fans gathered at the University of Vermont on Tuesday to welcome home the Catamounts men’s soccer team, who captured the NCAA Division I national championship Monday. The team arrived via bus from the Burlington International airport to greet a packed crowd of fans at Patrick Gym who were celebrating the team's 2-1 overtime victory over Marshall. UVM star striker Yaniv Bazini said even after the Catamounts went down 1-0 late in the second half, there was no panic on the team.

Eight men sporting white hair and glasses lined up in front of onlookers at City Hall Park in Burlington on Saturday to celebrate their resemblance to U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders. “About half a dozen times people have said, ‘Are you Bernie?’ said Art Sherman of Burlington, one of the look-alikes. “A woman stopped her car and shouted out the window, ‘Senator, I love you!’”The event was the latest in a string of viral celebrity look-alike contests popping up around the world.

That Vermont Independent Media, the organization behind the Windham County newspaper The Commons, is celebrating its 20th anniversary may be most surprising to the team operating behind the scenes. It was in 2004 that community members began to explore what an alternative, independent news source might look like, though The Commons did not begin publishing until 2006.
