We learned the sad news on Friday that Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall) passed away at age 89 – coincidentally, exactly one year after the death of her Harry Potter co-star Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore). The tributes to her from former Harry Potter cast and crew members quickly poured in. Daniel Radcliffe fondly remembered the first time he met Smith, while working on David Copperfield, in a statement to Variety.

(K)nox: The Rob Knox Story is the documentary about the life and death of actor Rob Knox, who played Marcus Belby in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Knox was tragically killed in a stabbing in 2008, shortly after completing filming on the sixth Harry Potter film. The documentary premiered in 2021 at the London Independent Film Festival before airing on TV in Germany in 2022 and in the UK in 2023.

After much anticipation and many reports about who was going to get the coveted job of writing the Harry Potter TV reboot, Warner Bros. has announced that Francesca Gardiner will be its official writer and showrunner and one of its executive producers. Meanwhile, Mark Mylod will be another executive producer and will direct several episodes. Gardiner is known for producing Succession, His Dark Materials, and Killing Eve.

The Harry Potter New York store is celebrating its third anniversary this month, and with it comes a new broomstick flying experience, some limited-time offerings, and a visit from Neville Longbottom actor Matthew Lewis. MuggleNet attended a media day with Matthew on June 17, where the actor tested out the broomstick experience and recalled his own memories of flying on a broom for the Harry Potter films.

There’s news about Universal Orlando Resort’s Epic Universe, which is slated for opening in the summer of 2025. Warner Bros. submitted patent applications in November for what seem to be the names of the park’s Wizarding World attractions. These 11 names are mostly centered around the Paris setting of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Of course, they are not guaranteed to be the final names of any of the attractions.
