The site near Witherslack is now home to two active osprey nests. The original nest is occupied by long-established pair Blue 35 and White YW, who have been breeding at the site since 2014.

3 1/1 A long-serving mountain rescue volunteer from south Cumbria has been recognised in the 2025 King's Birthday Honours list. Nigel Lister, chair of the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team, is set to receive the British Empire Medal (BEM) in recognition of his outstanding services both to mountain rescue and the nuclear industry. Mr Lister, from Broughton, has been a central figure in the local rescue team for more than 25 years.
