Seven years after the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) was drafted, the situation feels like a movie script that may not have a feel-good ending. Seventy nations have ratified or acceded to the treaty, which is intended to promote non-proliferation and disarmament, and it has received great recognition. But some nuclear weapons states are retreating further and further from existing arms control protocols and agreements, such as the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
