By Cathy Womble Lake Okeechobee NewsOKEECHOBEE — The city of Okeechobee finance department passed its audit with flying colors this year. The audit was done by Carr, Riggs & Ingram and presented to the city council by Lindsey Aviles. Aviles explained the audit was on the year ending on Sept. 30, 2024 and could not be done until the pension actuary sends its evaluation. After this, the pension auditor must complete an audit so everything can be included in the city’s audit.

By Cathy Womble Lake Okeechobee NewsOKEECHOBEE — A discussion on the maintenance of the sculptures in Cattlemen’s Square was held during the Okeechobee City Council’s May 19 meeting. Angie Griffin, from Mainstreet, gave the council an update on the park and raised the subject of maintenance. She said the sculptures were beginning to look a little rough, and she reached out to the artist. “He told us to use a specific wax,” she explained.

By Cathy Womble Lake Okeechobee NewsOKEECHOBEE — During the May 19 Okeechobee City Council meeting, the week of May 18 through 24, 2025 was proclaimed as National Public Works Week. Jackie Dunnam was appointed to serve as an alternate on the Planning board, Board of Adjustment and the Design Review Board. The council voted to approve amending the Future Land Use map from single-family to multi-family residential for the .65 acres located at 2104 SW Second Avenue, behind South State Bank.
