The New Bedford Whaling Museum is opening two exhibitions celebrating the 50th anniversary of Cape Verde’s independence from Portugal in collaboration with the vibrant Cape Verdean community on the South Coast of New England. The Republic of Cabo Verde was a historical hub of the transatlantic slave trade and later became a significant stop for American whaling ships. As a result, many Cape Verdean crewmembers made their way to New Bedford and settled there.

Every year, Gospel Night ends the Boston Pops’ city season with soul-soaring melodies and the powerful rhythms of the Boston Pops Gospel Choir. This year, the orchestra performs with married duo Grammy winner Tamela Mann and award-winning actor and comedian David Mann. The Manns began their work in the entertainment industry as members of the Kirk Franklin and The Family choir in the 1990s.

The Ashmont-Adams neighborhood will come alive this weekend as more than 60 musicians and performers gather on porches, driveways and lawns for Dorchfest 2025. The all-day festival brings five hours of live music and activities to the neighborhood to enjoy for free. Music lovers can listen to a range of genres from rock, jazz and hip-hop to reggae, electronic and Afro-beats. Beaumont Street and Carruth Street are major byways for music, but performances will pop-up all over the neighborhood.

Kayla Tabb is the newly appointed chef-in-residence at the lab and she comes prepared to teach everything from meal planning to cake decorating. The Nutrition Lab is a community teaching kitchen in the Roxbury branch of the Boston Public Library, the first and only of its kind in the BPL system.
