CHILDREN under 16 in Wales have spoken for the first time about the impact of housing issues and homelessness on their lives, in a report published today by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales. The report reveals first-hand accounts of children living in cramped, unsafe and often dangerous conditions, with many describing the toll on their physical and mental health, as well as their education.

SIX Greenpeace activists were arrested today following a demonstration outside the US embassy in London against the continued sale of arms to Israel. Protesters tipped 300 litres of non-toxic, biodegradable blood-red dye from containers with the words “Stop Arming Israel” written on into a large pond in front of the embassy building. The containers were delivered to the embassy on bicycles disguised as delivery couriers.

ABOUT half of senior leaders in secondary schools have been forced to cut teachers, teaching assistants and support staff this year, new research has revealed. More secondary school leaders are making cuts to staff than last year due to a squeeze on finances, according to a poll by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) for the Sutton Trust.

“ALL options remain on the table” for the future of British Steel, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said today as fears grew that its Scunthorpe plant could close next month. The company’s Chinese owner, Jingye, has cancelled future orders for raw materials needed to keep the furnaces operational and British Steel has launched a formal consultation process.
