1 INTRODUCTION Understanding landscape heterogeneity, which refers to the uneven distribution of elements across landscapes (Farina, 2022), is crucial when designing and evaluating the impact of conservation policies, particularly considering the increasing pressure these systems face from land use changes and global warming (Lambin & Meyfroidt, 2011; Powers & Jetz, 2019; Walther et al., 2002).
