Today we’re talking about some random college football thoughts, while wishing the men’s hoops team had gotten off to a better start Tuesday evening down in the heart of Texas. In regards to football, I’ll admit I didn’t watch one snap of the CFP title game Monday evening.

Well, the dust has barely settled on the 2024 college football season, and our Missouri Tigers went 10-3 and finished as Music City Bowl champions. If you’re like me, you enjoyed the hell out of the season - for the most part - but yet you can’t explain a slight feeling of emptiness that it didn’t quite reach where we all dreamt it might. Dare I say that while 2024 was exciting, it also left a slightly dissatisfying tinge to the overall feeling?

Tuesday felt like a watershed day for Tiger Athletics. The hoops team, just one season after going 0-fer in SEC play, pulled off a mammoth 83-82 upset win at 5th-ranked Florida to improve to 14-3 and 3-1 in the conference. Just prior to the start of the game, the Tiger Football team set the tone for the day with a huge recruiting win in the transfer portal.

Today we’re talking about football, even though Mizzou’s season is in the rearview mirror. Of course, Rock M Nation will have all sorts of off-season coverage of the Tiger program leading up to spring camp, but there’s lots of stuff to keep tabs on going forward. One exciting aspect is the 2025 NFL Draft, at which we expect to see a handful of Tigers hear their name called.

Some observations around the world of college football, served up in four quarter style. Legal Disclaimer: these views are my own and may be really dumb. The Music City Bowl seemed to me to be a pretty fair microcosm of Mizzou’s 2024 season. Mizzou did just enough to pull out a tight 27-24 win over Iowa to end the season 10-3.

Today we’re talking about the Music City Bowl. In a game that was a perfect representation of the entire 2024 season, Mizzou stumbled out of the gates, got down early, came back, made second half adjustments and made enough plays to pull out a dramatic 27-24 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The win ends Mizzou’s season at 10-3, giving the Tigers back-to-back double-digit win seasons for just the third time in program history (2007-2008, 2013-2014, 2023-2024).

So we’re restoring this feature to its full length and running it close to the 10 year anniversary of the Citrus Bowl win over Minnesota. It’s hard to believe 10 years have passed since the Missouri Tigers closed a stellar 2014 season with a resounding win over Minnesota in the Citrus Bowl to cap an 11-win campaign.
