    Lowering the voting age isn’t a new idea. In 1971, the 26th Amendment dropped the minimum voting age, from 21 down to 18. It was the quickest constitutional amendment in US history to be ratified, taking just three months to reach the required 3/4 majority of states. At the time, people pushing to drop the voting age pointed to the military draft during the Vietnam War. They said if they were old enough to fight, they were old enough to vote.
