On April 2 Juan Felipe Herrera took to City College in the Garvin Theater to talk about poetry during National Poetry Month and how it can help amplify your voice. National Poetry Month was established by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 to recognize poetry in culture and education during the month of April. Herrera, an educator, activist, and poet, stood among students and faculty members to give insights into his long-term background with poetry.

Santa Barbara City College was established in 1909 making it one of the oldest City Colleges in America, and it’s packed with an active cheer and dance selection but what it doesn’t offer is a marching band. The 116-year-old City College has a plethora of different sports, clubs and extracurricular activities. City College offers a variety of programs that appeal to lots of students looking to branch out and/or hone their skills in crafts they are already familiar with.

MOUNT OLIVE – The North Duplin Rebels got off to a strong start in the first quarter of Friday night’s N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A second round playoff game as they jumped out to an 18-2 lead against the Gates County Red Barons, and they never looked back as they held on to easily win by a final score of 58-45. It didn’t take long for North Duplin’s offense to get going on Friday night as a little over a minute into the game, junior Lilly Fulghum got the scoring going with a layup.
