Cervical cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer mortality among women and remains a major challenge for public health. In 2020, an estimated 604,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide, and approximately 342,000 women died from the disease (Sung et al., 2021). Thalassemia, also known as Mediterranean anemia, is a widely prevalent monogenic autosomal recessive blood disorder worldwide (Chen et al., 2021; Goonasekera et al., 2018). It can be categorized into two types: α-thalassemia and β-thalassemia. α-Thalassemia is caused by the deletion or single nucleotide variations (SNVs) in the α-globin gene, leading to reduced or absent synthesis of α-globin chains (Ning et al., 2023).
