Police are investigating after an LGBTQ+-themed bench in Hitchin, Hertfordshire was set ablaze. North Herts Pride wrote on Facebook on Tuesday (15 April): “[We are] devastated and deeply saddened to learn that the North Herts Pride bench on Windmill Hill was set on fire last night.”The rainbow-coloured bench was installed in Hitchin in March 2023, after the local council allocated funds to the group. Local artist Jacob Williams-Leroy was commissioned to paint it.

The UK “might not be meeting its human rights obligations”, in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling on transgender rights, a lawyer has said. The court ruled on Wednesday (16 April) that the legal definition of a woman under the Equality Act is based on ‘biology’ alone. Reading out the ruling, judge Lord Patrick Hodge said: “The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been criticised by a Trump official, who described him as “the most irritating person I’ve ever had to deal with”. Musk was appointed to head up the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been at the heart of controversial moves to cut federal funding, foreign aid and a $25,000 award to help LGBTQ+ refugees. A survey has found that frequent hand-holding, hugging, kissing and cuddling could be indicators of greater sexual satisfaction in monogamous relationships. The paper, titled Sexual and Affectionate Behaviors and Satisfaction for Adults in Romantic Relationships: A Latent Profile Analysis, and published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, studied 336 predominantly LGBTQ+ adults in monogamous relationships.

Australian Greens MP Stephen Bates has launched an OnlyFans in a bid to sway people to vote Green. Brisbane’s Bates, who previously attributed his election success to a vivacious Grindr ad campaign, has launched an OnlyFans to announce the party’s plan to make PrEP free. Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is an antiretroviral drug that when taken daily helps to prevent a person from contracting HIV.
