On May 6, the FIU issued a mandatory directive for the public and business entities to deposit the bulk of South Sudan pounds in their possession to licensed banks and to conduct transactions through licensed financial institutions.

JUBA, (Eye Radio) – The Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS), Primate Justin Badi Arama, refuted social media allegations that he was beaten during riots at St. Stephen Parish in Central Equatoria on Thursday. Photos of Primate Badi seated on the ground and a group of faithful in a heated tension with Gezira residents claiming ownership of a disputed part of the church land, emerged on social media on May 8.

JUBA, (Eye Radio) – The Director of Special Protection Unit and Child Affairs at the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) said hesitancy among victims of sexual exploitation to report abuses is hindering the law from pining down perpetrators. Brig. Gen. James Dak Carlo attributed the hesitancy to negative perceptions, taboos and consequences of reporting some influential perpetrators of sexual related cases.

JUBA, (Eye Radio) – A veteran South Sudanese military commander and politician, Gen. Stephen Ogut Obongo Ochang, died in Juba on Thursday at an estimated age of 85 years, following a short illness. He passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Nile Kings Hospital in Juba. His death was confirmed by his son, Tek Stephen, in an interview with Eye Radio when he said the retired commander had been suffering from a fever for two days before being taken to the hospital.
