I’ve never been particularly good at math, but as I count it, it’s been 47 years since I first started working as a journalist. While I don’t regret spending those decades doing this kind of work – even in the face of a growing number of people who for reasons truly unknown to me don’t trust us anymore – I’ve decided enough is enough.

Mesa County budget officials are expecting an increase in total revenues next year, and an even bigger increase in expenses, according to a 2025 budget approved by commissioners on Tuesday. That $272.6 million spending plan adds 28 new employees to various county departments, most of the costs for which would be covered by grants and increased revenues.
